Things To Do
Our area is full of fun things to do, many National & Provincial Parks, wineries and attractions for everyone.
Boutique Wineries
The North Shore’s wineries make an easy, memorable day trip for visitors. Most offer free or low-cost tastings, along with tours and seasonal events—especially through the summer and fall. Several estates feature bistro-style dining or wood-fired pizza, while others offer peaceful lake or woodland views. And the wines produced along Lake Erie’s sunny, sandy shoreline continue to earn recognition on the world stage.
As you follow Hwy 18 and the backroads on a wine tour, you’ll pass through towns filled with antique shops, strong local restaurants, and unique small businesses—all set against the backdrop of Southern Ontario’s farmland and woodlots. The route leads you to historic Amherstburg, home to a preserved British fort overlooking the Detroit River, a solid dining scene, and one of the region’s standout fall wine festivals.
Migration Capital of Canada
Birders from around the world come here for the incredible viewing opportunities at Point Pelee National Park and the surrounding parks and conservation areas. From our property alone, guests have spotted everything from hummingbirds (and hummingbird moths) to bald eagles. Wheatley Provincial Park is just 5 minutes away, Point Pelee is 15, and Jack Miner’s Sanctuary in Kingsville is only 20.
Each fall, Monarch butterflies gather in our region before beginning their multi-generational migration to Mexico. Some seasons are heavier than others, but every year we see caterpillars, chrysalises, and Monarchs thriving in our milkweed patch.

Freedom Trail
Hickory Lake House is only 30 minutes from North Buxton’s National Historic Site & Museum, where visitors can engage directly with the history of slavery and the stories of those who found freedom in Canada. The museum offers guided tours, restored historic buildings, and a peaceful picnic area.
Annual reunions draw families and visitors from both sides of the border, and several of our American guests have stayed with us while attending the events throughout the day and evening.
Fishing
Wheatley is a fisherman’s paradise. Delicious yellow perch and pickerel (walleye for our American friends) await, and numerous charter companies in Wheatley Harbour—just 5 minutes away—can take you out on the water. Lake trout, bass, and salmon are also abundant, and summer fishing derbies offer fun challenges for all ages.
For those boating in, we provide overnight accommodations with breakfast and can pick you up at your slip at the Wheatley Harbour Port Authority, returning you there in the morning.
